The Bureau - History
We opened our original store in 1989 at number 4 Wellington Street, a small pedestrian street at the side of the City Hall. Our neighbours were a vintage American clothing store, a closed down fast food bar and a burnt out cafe due to the political unrest at the time. The first few years were lonely at times but we were steadily building a small following of believers.
In 2005 we moved from Wellington Street to Howard Street where we restored an original old tobacconist and striped out the old Presbyterian Hostel dining rooms to create our present home. We are dedicated to the spirit of resistance against the onslaught of the multi national and the homogenous city.
