Tender has its roots in antique workwear and machinery, especially from the Great British Steam Age. An important face of Tender’s English–made clothing is the nurture which is put into the clothes: in their research, design, manufacture, and wear. Tender’s goal is for the owner to live with their clothes, wearing them hard, but respecting their provenance and the stories they have to tell.
The Purl Edge Folded Front Cardigan is knitted with wide triangular front panels, which are folded back on themselves at the centre, and linked into the hem forming large slouchy front pockets. The fabric is knitted in a plain stitch, then the cuffs, hem, and front open edge are turned back on themselves showing the reverse ‘purl’ stitch. The cardigan does not have any fastening at the front.
The heavy gauge soft woollen Donegal yarn is spun in County Donegal, Ireland. Donegal yarns are usually woven, rather than knitted, and are famous for their random flecks of contrasting coloured fibre spun into the main shade, a style which developed over centuries of home–spinning.
