Original Madras Trading Company are small batch hand weavers and makers from Chennai, on the Bay of Bengal in eastern India formerly known as Madras. This 3rd generation company have been trading “Madras cloth” to many of the famous U.S. fashion brands that you associate with Ivy style since the Grandfather/Founder traveled to the States in the 70s with a suit case of Madras textiles and established an office on 38th St in the garment district of NYC.

Without synthetic chemicals in the dying process nor the finishing process the natural dyes will continue to fade and transfer. This gives a uniquely beautiful quality to the colour of the cloth but does necessitate certain care in wearing and washing. Washing should be done with similar colours and with care, harsh detergents and other chemicals should be avoided and an awareness of rubbing must be considered during wearing. This is very similar to the care and maintenance of a good pair of real indigo jeans.
