Charles F Stead & Co has tanned leather in Leeds England since 1890 and is regarded as probably the best producer of suede in the world. They are the suppliers of premium suede to all the top quality shoe and boot makers.
CFS “waxy commander” is tanned to shrink the fibre structure by up to 25%, in order to create a unique appearance after impregnation and the addition of a number of waxes. The tight fibre structure prevents any ‘opening’ or stretching, and the traditional, rich dyings work with the waxes during wear, to produce a wonderful combination of natural texture and colour.
The leather is waterproof but the stitching on the upper of the boot and the construction is not so while this boot is great in the wet it is not fully waterproof.
