Wabash Dot Printed Shirt (Round Collar) (LOT 3058)
This Wabash dot shirt features coverall–style pockets and was likely worn primarily by railroad workers.
Unlike the workwear worn by other laborers, “railroaders” took pride in wearing a uniform designed to be seen. The indigo fabric features irregular dots printed using a discharge dye process. These irregular dots, rather than neat polka dots, are reminiscent of the indigo discharge dyeing techniques of the time. Two types, a collarless version and a round collar, were available, depending on the railroad worker’s occupation.
