Samurai Jeans was established in Osaka in 1998 based on the concept that jeans ultimately have no value unless the creator and wearer are united in their commitment. They strive to create fabrics with unique texture and atmosphere, pushing the envelope of what is possible with denim by paying close attention to the provenance of the cotton types they use, their characteristics, the shape of the threads they spin, while also striving to use traditional Japanese dyeing and weaving techniques rather than the more modern and generic methods found elsewhere. “You may need to hold this in your hand to appreciate the depth of quality”
This work shirt is made of indigo sashiko gingham check fabric. The shirt is based on vintage work style specs, and is made with durability in mind, sporting triple–stitched rolled seams for years of trouble–free wear. This indigo fabric is a combination of diamond sashiko and gingham checks woven with three thread colors: indigo, light blue and kinari. Sashiko was originally a very thick fabric, and lightweight fabricswere never really compatible with the weaving structure of sashiko, leaving ‘lightweight sashiko’ as only a thing of dreams until now. This exciting new fabric is now made possible by using a special dyeing and weaving factory that has over 50 years ofexperience in these difficult techniques.
