We have joined together with our good friends Mark and Paul Kane from Dave Kane Cycles and Sam and Tony of il Pirata/ Coppi Restaurants to share our friendship and love of cycling. Last night we had our inaugural run which was a short social affair starting and finishing at il Pirata and including a refreshment stop at ‘White Rocks’ along the shore of Strangford Lough with the Coppi Truck in attendance. I have spent many a day with Mark Kane, groveling over the likes of the Gavia while he has glided up and over it, so therefore it was lovely to spend an evening with the boys from the Flourotrain and other friends around a social ride, a glass of red and some great food. We hope that this is the first of many more rides organised between the three of us, some on the more leisurely side while other may be off a more taxing nature. May I take this opportunity to thank all those more able riders for making the pace enjoyable for all and the staff off il Pirata for their great hospitality, food and service. Craft – a pastime that requires some particular kind of skill…an artisan. Work – Physical labour done in exchange of payment. Cycling at all levels contains a certain amount of pain but for some it seems like a craft while for other it just looks like hard work. Enjoy the images. Michael
The Giro starts in Belfast this weekend, kicking off with the Time Trails on Friday, Antrim Coast on Saturday and Armagh to Dublin on Sunday. Friday’s Time Trials make their way up (and down) the Newtownards Rd so the roads will be closed for most of the day. We will be closed both Friday and Saturday with normal service resuming on Monday 12th May. All orders placed from now on and over the weekend will leave on Monday. Thanks (and apologies!) to Hurson/Krem for the Giro bag – click here to contact Hurson if you are after one. Also see Michael’s framed jersey from his trip to the Dolomites back in 2005.
